Juggling, table football, board games, a cup competition and much more!

Swiss top-flight club FC Basel’s Dreamteam, a team for people with physical or mental disabilities, had a day to remember at the FIFA Museum on Saturday, 9 March. The players and coaches, who arrived on the club’s first-team bus, were welcomed by FIFA Museum Managing Director Marco Fazzone and FIFA Museum Football Experts Prisca Steinegger and Pascal Zuberbühler.

“Football brings people together and we all love football at the FIFA Museum,” said former defender Steinegger, who won 55 caps for the Swiss national team between 1996 and 2008, scoring two goals. “It’s nice to share the magic of football with so many people. This wonderful cultural institution is very close to my heart and being able to represent it means a lot to me.”

The highlight of the event was the Dreamteam Cup after lunch. During this activity, participants heard interesting stories from the world of football, solved puzzles and put their skills to the test at five different stations.

Challenges included figuring out which national-team shirts were designed for women or men, recognising and naming stadiums from pictures and beating “Zubi” at Tipp-Kick.
After the award ceremony, at which the best team were presented with miniature World Cup trophies, the almost 70 buzzing participants made their way home to Basel, taking away with them a host of magnificent memories, plus a FIFA Museum goody bag to boot.

The FC Basel Dreamteam was founded in spring 1997 with the aim of enabling people with physical or mental disabilities to experience the joy of playing football. The team is sponsored by current Basel player Taulant Xhaka. Pascal Schürpf, Eren Derdiyok and Timm Klose, who have also laced up their boots for Basel, also support the team.
