First released in 1981, Captain Tsubasa quickly became a global phenomenon, sparking a passion for football in Japan and beyond. The series played a pivotal role in shaping football culture, particularly in regions where the sport was still developing. Many top players, including Andrés Iniesta and Hidetoshi Nakata, have credited Captain Tsubasa with fuelling their love for the game, while Lionel Messi has shared how the manga influenced him as a child and helped shape his connection to football.

The Football Fever exhibition space at the FIFA Museum invites visitors to explore the dynamic relationship between football and popular culture. Beyond the Captain Tsubasa exhibit, it offers an interactive experience that celebrates how the sport influences entertainment, design, and creativity across the globe. Visitors can engage with football-inspired games, discover its impact on various art forms, and see how football’s cultural reach extends far beyond the pitch.
