FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ showcase updated with Messi shirt

alt image text

Three months after unveiling the showcase for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the FIFA Museum is proud to announce a very special addition to the objects on display at the FIFA Museum: Lionel Messi’s match-prepared shirt for the final.

As captain of the Albiceleste, Lionel Messi led Argentina to World Cup glory at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. He left his mark on the tournament by changing the course of Argentina’s matches in Qatar with his goals. Five of the seven he scored came with the score at 0-0 and three of them from first-half penalties, including the first of his two goals in the Final.

After the final whistle Messi raised the World Cup, a moment he and his whole nation have been waiting for since Argentina’s last triumph in 1986. Messi cemented his status as one of the best players ever by being awarded the adidas Golden Ball for the second time after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. This makes him the only player since the introduction of the awards in 1982 to win it twice.

His shirt is now part of a selection of objects on display in the FIFA Museum’s showcase for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. It sits next to the match-prepared shirt of France’s Kylian Mbappé, his opponent in the match that will go down in history as one of the most exciting FIFA World Cup Finals in history.
