Mönchengladbach stars meet fans at FIFA Museum

Five-time Bundesliga champions Borussia Mönchengladbach enjoyed a visit to the FIFA World Football Museum on Wednesday 18 May 2016. After posing for photographs and signing autographs for local fans, the footballers toured the museum, enjoyed the interactive stations and then a quick session on the giant pinball machine – with Swiss national team goalkeeper Yann Sommer beating his club and country teammate Granit Xhaka to set a new high score for the day.

The Gladbach team visited just hours after the club’s vice president Rainer Bonhof was reunited with the FIFA World Cup Trophy – nearly 42 years after he won it. The club is currently touring Switzerland as part of their ‘Fohlentour’, which runs from 15 to 20 May 2016. The tour was organised as a way of saying thank you to the rising number of Swiss people supporting Gladbach – and so the players could enjoy the exhibits at the museum, of course.

“The museum is full of historical objects, we had a lot of fun and it‘s very interesting to see all the objects. Everybody should visit here!” said Swiss national team goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

“It was great to have the Borussia Mönchengladbach team here and I think everybody had a lot of fun,” said the museum’s managing director Stefan Jost.

“Local fans got to meet their heroes and the players themselves seemed interested in the interactive entertainment. It was great to see seasoned professionals have fun on the Pinball machine too!”

Yann Sommer and Granit Xhaka were also involved in a press conference after their tour, speaking to various members of the Swiss press about their preparations ahead of Euro 16, among other things. And, in what was a busy day for the museum, Swiss national team manager Vladimir Petkovic also addressed the media to reveal his provisional squad ahead of the tournament in France later this summer.
