Women’s football takes centre stage: England v. Switzerland & live talk with Prisca Steinegger
The FIFA Museum invites you to a special event on the evening of Tuesday, 3 December 2024. Host and moderator Prisca Steinegger and her guests are excited to welcome you to our Arena from 6:30 p.m. to watch the women’s international between England and Switzerland. Admission to the event, which will be held in German, is free.
Before the match, FIFA Museum Football Expert and former Switzerland international Steinegger will be live on stage talking with Sandra Piubel and Urs Meier, the parents of current Swiss national-team star Seraina Piubel. Food and drinks will also be available.
Career insights, international experience and parents’ perspective
Piubel Sr and Meier have not only supported Seraina on her journey to becoming a top player but were also successful footballers themselves. Sandra played in the Swiss topflight for Blue Stars and played an international match for Switzerland (against Slovakia in 1994). Urs Meier represented Grasshopper Club and Bellinzona, among others, before going on to coach the likes of FC Zürich. They passed on their football passion – and talent – to Seraina, one of Switzerland’s highest-profile female footballers today, a midfielder who currently plies her trade at West Ham United.
Look forward to an engaging talk as Piubel Sr and Meier share insights into Seraina’s career. They will discuss her move abroad, her adaptation to life in London, and what it means for them as parents to accompany their daughter in the international football world.
What was it like for them when Seraina took the plunge by joining West Ham? What hopes, fears and challenges come with a career abroad? This talk offers a unique, behind-the-scenes glimpse into a top athlete’s life from the parents’ perspective.
Public viewing: England v. Switzerland
Following the talk, join us for a public viewing of the England v. Switzerland match (Kick-off is at 8:45 p.m.). European Champions England (currently ranked second in the FIFA Women’s World Ranking) will go into the game as clear favourites and should provide an ideal test and tune-up for the Swiss team (ranked 25th), who are gearing up for EURO 2025 on home soil. Experience the excitement live and cheer along with us.
An evening for football enthusiasts
This event offers a perfect opportunity to dive into the world of women’s football. Come by and enjoy an inspiring evening full of fascinating stories, personal insights, and thrills, when shared passion for the beautiful game will take centre stage!
